Judoka of the Month for August: Meet George
Better late than never! Life at the club has been busy, so our August Judoka of the Month is only landing now, but George has more than earned it, and we didn’t want to skip him.
Focus, focus, focus
George is a white belt who is getting ready for his yellow belt, and if you want to see what real focus looks like, watch him on the mat. When the instructors are explaining something, George is listening. When it’s time to practise, he gets stuck in and does it properly, then does it again. He doesn’t rush, and he doesn’t mess about!
Looking out for his training partners
Here is the part that really impressed us. George is incredibly strong, and he knows it. What matters most is what he does with that strength. He is careful around the other children, he adjusts how he trains depending on who his partner is, and he looks after the people he practises with.
That is the heart of Judo. The Kodokan way is about using your strength well, never about showing it off. Judo is learned with a partner, and a good judoka makes their partner better. George already understands that, and it makes him a great training partner and a great example for the rest of the club.
Well done, George. Thank you for the effort and the focus you bring to every session.
